WAN Concepts
The collection of equipment that makes up the WAN network. The WAN cloud is owned and maintained by telecommunications companies.

What is a T1 line?
The process of proving identity where logon credentials are exchanged and logon is allowed or denied.
Authentication
It's a networking protocol that works on port 1812.
RADIUS/ Remote Authentication Dial-In User Service.
A line that enables digital signals to be transmitted over telephone wiring.
What is Digital Subscriber Line (DSL)?
A switching facility connected to the WAN. It is the nearest point of presence for the WAN provider. It provides WAN cloud entry and exit points.

64 Kbps x 672 = 44.7 Mbps
What is a T3 line?
The process of identifying the resources that a user can access over the remote access connection.
Authorization
This separates the three AAA server functions. It also encrypts the entire communication session between the remote servers
TACACS+
A virtual network that creates an encrypted connection between a device, such as a laptop or mobile phone, and a secure network.
What is a Virtual private network (VPN)
The cable that extends from the central office to the customer location. The local loop is owned and maintained by the WAN service provider.

The Base Rate
An activity that tracks or logs the use of the remote access connection.
Accounting
Authentication Protocol, uses 3-way handshake where unique challenge phrases are exchanged for authentication.
Challenge Handshake Authentication Protocol, or CHAP.
An architecture in which multiple processor-controlled switching units are distributed.
What is Distributed Switching?
The devices physically located on the subscriber's premises.
What is Customer premises equipment (CPE)
What is a type of DSL connection where the upload bandwidth is much slower than the download bandwidth.
What is ADSL?
A server used to centralize authentication, authorization, and accounting for multiple remote access servers.
AAA Server
authentication protocol, When a connection is established, the client and server negotiate the authentication type that'll be used based on the allowed authentication types
Extensible Authentication Protocol, or EAP,
A WAN data classification and data carrying mechanism. This is a packet switching technology that supports variable-length frames.
Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS)
The point that marks the boundary between the telco equipment and an organization's network or telephone system.
What is Demarcation point (Demarc)
A type of internet service provided by your cable provider
What is cable internet
The username and password are sent to the desired server, and the server either accepts or rejects them. The information is transmitted in plaintext,
Password Authentication Protocol, or PAP.
These policies identify users who can connect to a remote site and the parameters that might restrict that connection.
Remote Access Policies
A WAN technology that provides increased bandwidth within the local loop. The two forms of it are basic rate interface (BRI) and primary rate interface (PRI).
Integrated Services Digital Network (ISDN)
