What kind of feet should you use while entering the cafeteria from the playground?
Walking Feet. We should always use walking feet inside, but especially in the cafeteria since it is a very crowded area and we don’t want anybody getting hurt.
100
How many times should an adult have to give you a direction?
Once. You should do what you are asked to do the first time you are asked without arguing back, asking why, rolling your eyes, or grunting.
100
Is it ever okay to solve a problem by putting your hands on someone?
No- Never. If you have a problem with another person, use calm words. If that still doesn’t work, walk away or get help from an adult.
100
Snow should always stay on the __________________.
Snow should always stay on the ground. You should never throw or kick snow because someone could get hurt, especially if there are chunks of ice.
100
When the bell rings is it okay to keep playing just a little bit longer so you can finish your game before lining up?
No. When the bell rings, you need to stop what you are doing immediately and quickly get to your room number to line up. Both before school and after recess it is important to get students lined up and inside as quick as possible and settled into the classroom to get started on learning.
200
Where should your coats go?
On the hooks by our classroom number/teacher’s name. There should only be one coat per hook, and it might help you keep track of mittens and hats if you stuff them in your coat sleeve.
200
True or False- If an adult comes up to you and asks you what happened after an incident is reported, it is best to explain things in a calm and respectful voice.
True- Even if you didn’t do anything wrong it is always best to stay calm so you can be honest and explain what happened. Yelling and saying disrespectful things towards the adult will make a situation worse when it doesn’t need to be.
200
Right or Wrong: You’re in the library and have checked out your books. You’re sitting by the door, waiting for the rest of your classmates to finish. Someone walks by and hits you over the head with his book. You think about hitting them back, but you remember that you must keep your hands and feet to yourself. You report the incident to the teacher in the library.
Right! It is always better to use your words when solving problems instead of using physical contact. Remember to ask the person to please stop, or if it is dangerous/destructive/disturbing then report the situation to an adult.
200
What winter gear do you need to be wearing in order to play in the snow?
You need to be wearing both snow boots and snow pants to play in the snow. Winter gear that should be worn by everyone in order to stay safe and warm while playing at recess also include heavy winter jackets, hats, and gloves/mittens.
200
What should you do with equipment you are playing with when the bell rings?
Put it away. Some equipment, such as balls and soccer jerseys, go in their bins and other things, such as jump ropes and hula hoops, should be put back on the equipment cart. We want to make sure we are taking good care of our equipment, and we want to make sure everything is picked up so things don’t get lost or ruined by being left outside.
300
True or False- It is okay to push and shove by the lunch cards so you can be the first in line to get your food.
False- Everyone should wait patiently for their turn to find their lunch card and then line up single file as you wait to get your food. There is always going to be enough food for everyone, so there is no need to rush.
300
When you don’t agree with what an adult wants you to do and you refuse to follow directions you are being defiant, which can make it hard for the teacher to keep working with other students. Is this a good way to show respect towards your teacher?
No. Instead, try following this steps: 1. Look at the person giving the direction because it shows respect 2. Say “Okay” even fi you don’t agree with the person 3. Stay calm by taking 3 deep breaths or counting to 10 slowly 4. Do as you were asked
300
Keeping our hands and feet to self will help students follow “The Tiger Way,” which says everyone will be ____________, be _____________, and be _______________ (hint: we say these in our Pledge of Respect every morning).
Be Safe, Be Responsible, and Be Respectful
300
Is it okay to “save” snow, especially from one recess to another?
No. Everyone can play with whatever snow they want during recess, and once the bell rings the next grade level can play with whatever snow they want (including snow people, snow forts, and statues).
300
True or False: I do not need to listen to my Line Leaders while lining up in the morning before school because they are not my teacher.
False. You are expected to respect your Line Leaders and follow their directions just like you are with an adult.
400
Your coat drops to the floor as you walk away to get in the lunch line. What should you do?
You should walk back and hang it back up. You may lose your spot in the lunch line, but it only takes a few extra seconds to pick it up so nobody trips on it and gets hurt.
400
When you are given a consequence for making a poor choice how should you respond: respectfully or disrespectfully?
Respectfully. It is okay to be upset about receiving a consequence, but remember that it was your choice to not follow directions and/or expectations. Please don’t argue back because that can make things worse.
400
Right or Wrong: While waiting to get your lunch someone accidentally steps on your foot, so you turn around a punch them in the arm.
Wrong! First off, it was an accident that someone stepped on your foot. Secondly, there is never a time when it is okay to put your hands on someone. If you do not like what someone did, ask them to please stop and walk away.
400
True or False: If you see orange cones near an area of ice, that means you can go play on it.
False. If you see cones surrounding an area on the playground, that means it is too dangerous and you should stay away. Going on the ice can be very dangerous and can easily result in injuries from slipping and falling.
400
When your class is given the “ok” to head inside, you and your friends start playfully pushing and shoving each other, run ahead to try and be the first inside, and are yelling to your friends in another class. Is this the correct way to walk inside?
No. When your class is dismissed to go inside you should walk in a straight line and be single file, you should be facing forward with your hands at your side, and you should have a zero voice.
500
After your teacher has come to dismiss your class from the table, what kind of voice should you use in the hallway on the way back to your classroom?
Zero Voice. Other grade levels are in their classrooms trying to learn, so we need to respect them and not talk or make noise in the hallway while we are walking back. The same goes for when you are taking boots and snow pants off- please use a zero voice and make sure when you put things in your locker that you close it quietly instead of slamming it.
500
Your teacher asks you to put away the iPads and get ready for writing, but you are not finished with what you are doing. What should you do?
You should put the iPad away the first time the teacher asks. You may not be done with what you were doing, but you were given a direction and you should comply.
500
True or False: It is okay to hit, kick, or push someone back if they did it first.
False. It is never okay to use your hands or feet to solve a problem. If someone hits, kicks, or pushes you, ask them to please stop, walk away, and get an adult for help. If you choose to do something back to someone, you will also receive a consequence.
500
While getting ready for recess at your locker, you decide to keep your hat and gloves/mittens inside because you think it is too warm out.
You need to wear all outdoor gear at every recess and be honest about if you have them or not. It is better to be overdressed and take things off outside if you get too warm than to be freezing because you didn’t wear everything outside in the first place.
500
Is it okay to run to your line when the bell rings?
Yes. We would like students to line up as quickly as possible, but make sure you are careful and not running into other people. As you get closer to your line, please start slowing down so you can stop behind the last person in line without pushing into them.
