“When Aisha opened the front door she had to brush powdery snow from her coat sleeves. The porch light was on and a trail of wet footprints led from the sidewalk to the welcome mat. Near the door, a small pair of ice‑crusted mittens sat next to a folded flyer for a community winter fair.”

Someone came to Aisha’s house recently and removed their mittens at the door.

“Maya took down the old calendar and circled a cluster of dates toward the end of the month. There were pine needles on the carpet, and in the hallway she found a folded program that announced a winter concert with a start time of 6:30 PM. A sticky note on the fridge read ‘Meet at 5:00 to rehearse’.”

A winter concert is coming soon, and Maya is likely participating in the rehearsal or performance.

Your group is meeting after school to plan a winter class party, but one partner never joins the calls and does not answer messages. The rest of the group is worried the decorations and snack list won’t get finished in time for the party.

Try contacting the partner one more time with a clear message about what is due and a deadline. If there’s no reply, tell the teacher and divide the tasks among the available members so the work still gets done. Keep a note of attempts to contact the missing partner.

What should you do?

Go inside to warm up your hands as soon as possible — put them in your pockets, hold a warm drink, or sit near a heater for a few minutes. Ask a friend or teacher if you can borrow spare gloves. If you can’t warm them, stop playing and tell an adult to avoid frostbite.

You’re in a virtual class on a snowy evening when the internet starts to cut out because of poor weather. Your video freezes and you miss important instructions about a winter reading assignment. You’re worried you’ll fall behind if you can’t hear or see the teacher.

Send a quick message in chat or email the teacher explaining the connection problem and ask for the assignment details or a short summary. Turn off your video to improve connection, try reconnecting, or call in by phone if that option exists. Check the class page later for posted materials.

A classmate seems upset during the school winter festival and keeps sitting alone while others work on a group snowman project. They snap at students who try to help and refuse to join. The team feels uncomfortable and the project is not getting done because one person won’t participate.

What can be done to help?

A student or teacher can invite the classmate to talk privately and ask if they’re okay. Offer small tasks they can do alone at first so they feel included without pressure (for example, choosing a hat or arranging buttons). If the problem continues, ask the teacher to mediate and suggest taking turns so the group can finish the project while also supporting the upset classmate.
