You may want to bookmark the transfer & freshmen placement exam chart to quickly answer student's questions on these. Remind students they are to PLACE them into the appropriate course and will have an opportunity to discuss results with their advisor at Orientation.
Is there a freshmen/international parent/family orientation program?
No, but parents are welcome to sit in during the general information sessions (NOT advising/class registration sessions).
What must a student do before they will be invited to register for an Orientation session?
Pay/waive their enrollment deposit!
$300 students pay (or seek to get waived) to hold their spot at the University of Michigan.
What is the Enrollment Deposit?
What do you need from a parent member who might call to ask to register for parent Orientation?
Their student's UMID number, uniqname, or first and last name + the parent's name, email, and any registration details to note (accommodations)
Can I register for classes before Orientation?
No! All incoming students register for classes at Orientation with the guidance of their advisor.
Is there a transfer parent orientation program?
Yes, Transfer parent programs run the same days as transfer orientation programs.
After a student is invited to register for Orientation, what do they need to read before being able to register for a date?
Read the Online Orientation Information (OOI)!

What do you need from a student to help change their Orientation registration?
Their UMID, uniqname, or name.

Yes! All portions of Orientation are considered mandatory.

Is parent orientation mandatory? Is there a cost?
No! Parent Orientation is an optional program. Transfer Parent Orientation is a free, 1 day program.
What is the date for Freshmen/International Orientation?
January 6-7
Why might a student only see one or two of the December transfer dates as options?
Their academic unit may only offer seats on certain days or seats on the other days might be full!
The specific school, college, and program that a student was admitted to and determines what Orientation sessions they can go to.
What is an advising unit?
What do you do if a student calls who is running late to an Orientation session (day of).
Let Erika Johnson know to determine if they need to reschedule or join the program. From there you may need to notify the academic unit if the student will be late or will be rescheduled.
I can't register for Orientation, can you just sign me up?
No. Verify that the student is matriculated by pulling up their information in Wolverine Access and then verifying that they have read all of the OOI. Try walking them through registration if those two things are done. We want students to register themselves initially for Orientation sessions.
