Two tips for working with power tools.

  • Switch tools OFF before connecting them to a power supply

  • Disconnect power supply before making adjustments

  • Ensure tools are properly grounded or double insulated.

  • Test all tools for effective grounding with a continuity tester or a ground fault circuit interrupter (GFCI)

SAFE PRACTICE IN THE USE OF MACHINE TOOLS

  • You have got to concentrate on what you are doing when you are using machine tools.

  • Do not get too close to a person using a machine. Give them room, and remember only one person can use a machine at any one time.

  • You have to understand how to set up a machine correctly, i.e. how to hold the cutting tool and the work piece.

  • Never touch the moving parts of a machine.

  • Report any damage to machines/equipment as this could cause an accident.

  • If you are not certain that what you are doing is safe, ask.

  •

Three things that safety hazards include based on class notes.

  • Spills on floors or tripping hazards, such as blocked aisles or cords running across the floor

  • Working from heights, including ladders, scaffolds, roofs, or any raised work area

  •  Unguarded machinery and moving machinery parts; guards removed or    moving parts that a worker can accidentally touch

  •  Electrical hazards like frayed cords, missing ground pins, improper wiring

  •  Confined spaces

  • Machinery-related hazards (lockout/tagout, boiler safety,
