Describe the punishments placed on Germany after World War I. How did those punishments lead to World War II?
Germany was forced to accept blame for WWI, had to pay over $30 billion, lost territory, and had their military limited to just 100,000 men. Germany's pride was extremely low and their government was bankrupted by the fine. Germans needed a strong leader to boost their morale. Hitler became leader in 1933 and lifted their spirits and prepared the country for a comeback, for revenge. Germany invaded neighboring territories to regain its strength and power.

They dropped the bombs hoping to force Japan into surrender. The US feared that an invasion of Japan would cost up to one million more lives since Japan was training all civilians to fight.

Germany stopped paying the $35 billion fine, built up their army from 100,000 to 600,000, placed troops in the Rhineland, and added new territory to Germany (Austria, Sudetenland). Britain and France responded by allowing them to do these things as long as Germany promised not to start another war (appeasement).
