A deadly chemical that was used to try and kill enemy soldiers.
What is poison gas?
These people where no longer safe even though they were many miles from the frontline.
What are civilians?
Often biased information that is used to promote certain ideas.
What is propaganda?
The rapid military buildup of countries leading up to World War One.
What is militarism?
The space between opposing sides trenches that proved deadly to cross.
What is No Mans Land?
A machine that could take to the skies and drop bomb on enemy soldiers.
What is a plane/bomber?
The process of saving resources by limiting how much of something people can buy.
What is rationing?
When a country is able to rule over itself and make its own decisions.
What is self-determination?
The different overseas colonies and holdings, rich in resources, that European countries competed over which led to worse relations between them.
What is imperialism?
Where soldiers spent most of their time when fighting on the frontlines.
What is a trench?
A new type of ship that Germany created to sink British cargo ships. This backfired by being a reason that American joined the war.
What is a submarine/UBoat?
The process of forcing people to join the army so that they can be sent to the front.
Conscription
When a country mobilizes all of its people to help in the war effort, on the front lines and the home front.
What is Total War?
The system of treaties between different European countries that led to them declaring war on each other.
What are alliances?
This commonly rained down on soldiers forcing them to take cover in their trenches.
What is artillery shells/bombs?
A long range weapon capable of killing enemy soldiers even when far from the front line.
What is artillery?
The civilian part of a country at war that actively contributes to the war effort however they can.
