1. Early in the book, Hindley was overlooked by his family as they grew stronger connections with Heathcliff. This caused Hindley to be resentful towards his entire family. This anger was increased after his wife died. Now, having no one to love, he turned to alcohol and became an angry, abusive man.
2. Even though Heathcliff and Catherine had a stronger connection, because of Catherine's ideas about class, she chose to marry Edgar instead of being with Heathcliff.
