Russian Revolution
It pulled Russia out of WWI. It got them out of the treaty of Versailles. They lost land. They changed how the government from an absolute monarchy to a communist government. Vladimir Lenin became the leader of Russia after the revolution.

After the war, the Ottoman Empire disbanded and became Turkey, Syria, and British controlled Saudi Arabia
The Zimmerman Telegram
It is the telegram sent by Germany to Mexico. Germany offered to give Mexico
southwest states if they declared war on America. It officially pulled America into the war
trench Warfare/Fronts
Because of artillery and big guns, soldiers were not able to take over land and
they were stuck in trenches. They could not move very far. They were gross and had rats. Because it was so muddy, people got trenchfoot, which was an infection in feet. There were rats and lice. The trenches were boring and there was not much to do whole soldiers waited to go over the top and most likely die.
Experience of Soldiers
They joined the war because they would be considered a coward. They also wanted to travel the world and to be with friends. They wanted the spiffy uniform. \
They did not get high pay and better pay was not a reason to fight.
Soldiers had letters censored under the Defense of the Realm act. The government wanted to give citizens a biased view with censoring the letters and propaganda (Posters, cartoons, artwork which was made to influence how people saw the war)
The Harlem Hellfighters
They were a group of African American fighters who were sent to fight with the French. They received many awards for their courage and they came after the war and fought for civil rights.
The Treaty of Versailles
It was a treaty to end WWI. It was between Germany and UK/France/America. It said that Germany had to give up its military and give up lots of land like Alcases-Lorraine. It also redrew maps of the middle east to give France and the UK more land. They made Germany sign a war guilt clause, which said the war was all Germany’s fault.
The System of Alliance
It’s a mutual agreement between countries to have an alliance
It pulled all the countries in when Austria Hungary declared war on Serbia
Imperialism
It is the taking over of other countries to gain resources and power
Countries came into conflict while fighting over lands in other places, this caused tension between European countries
Militarism
It means to glorify the army and put resources towards making it bigger
It made other countries feel like they were in danger because they saw armies
get bigger and bigger
Nationalism
It’s a love for one’s countries and you think it’s the best
It caused WWI because other countries felt powerful and they didn’t care out
other countries. Also, they wanted to expand their country to make it bigger
The Assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand
He was the heir to the throne of Austria Hungary. He was killed by a Serbian
nationalist named Gavirol Principe. Austria Hungary declared war on Serbia after he was killed and this started WWI because it set off the chain of alliances
