This cause is all about the interconnected countries, that they all had deals with one another to automatically jump in and defend each other if invaded. It made a small disagreement blow up into something way bigger.
Alliances (alliance system)
This secret note was intercepted by the British and USA forces, and it was sent by Germany to the Mexican government. It promised Mexico several American states in return for fighting against the USA forces along the border.

These large cannons would shoot before a large attack, trying to "soften up" the enemy lines before men were sent charging in. The Germans did this better than any other country in the war.
