Describe the story of the Zimmerman Telegram's role in the US's involvement in WWI.

The Germans sent Mexico a Telegram asking them to form an alliance with Germany and in return they would return their territory lost in the Mexican American War. The British intercepted the message and warned the US. This forced us to no longer stay neutral and declare war on Germany.
