What is The assassination of Austria-Hungary's Archduke Franz Ferdinand and his wife by the Serbian nationalist Gavrilo Princip and the Black Hand on June 28, 1914. Since Germany had an alliance with Austria-Hungary and Russia mobilized for Serbia, Germany declared war on Russia. Ottoman Empire joins Central Powers. Next, Germany declares war on France and illegally goes through neutral Belgium. As a result of that, Great Britain declares war on Germany. Eventually, US declares war on Germany (1917).
