I went to the Saturday Center and one of the screens had a scary screen saver! Every time the screen was on I saw something i didn't like. How could I feel?
Scared and/or Nervous because i think I will see it every time I pass by.
I can ask someone at the center to help me change the picture or I can look away when i pass by that room.
I was watching the scene in the movie where Rumi's friends find out her secret. I don't want them to hurt her! I yell and cry! "BUT SHE IS NOT EVIL! SHE IS NOT A DEMON!"
This part of the movie is really upsetting. What can we do instead?
We need to remember it is just a MOVIE. It is not real. It is a story being told and the problem will get fixed. I have to keep watching to see the solution. I can let others around me know how i feel. "Mom and dad this part makes me feel a bit sad."
My teacher is talking to me and I smell something funny when she talks. Her breath smells like coffee and I don't like it. I tell her, "Yuck your breath smells like coffee!"
This is a think NOT say. It wouldn't be a nice thing to say to anyone. I can make my teacher feel bad if I say that.
Someone at school put on lotion that smells really good. I say, "Wow someone smells good in here!"
Someone says, "i like your Spiderman shoes they're very cool!"
I say, "yea" and walk away. Is there a better way we could have responded?
yes! We ALWAYS need to remember to say thank you first! And then we can give a compliment back to them as well
* "Oh thank you! I like your ________"
* Thank you! Spiderman is a great superhero! I like your ______.
Sad.
This is a sad scene. Her friends found out her secret and she leaves.
At school some kids are talking about a show they like and i don't. I cover my ears and scream. I run away as far as I can from them without telling anyone around me what is happening.
Was covering my ears, yelling, and running away a good way to solve this problem?
Is this a BIG problem or emergency? Or is this a small problem we can fix?
This is a small problem. It is NOT a big deal. Maybe the show that is not my favorite is a show that is someone else's favorite.
I can calmy say, "hey guys can we talk about something else?" if they say NO i can find new friends to play with or a quiet area. If they say no, i can also find a safe adult to tell them I need some space because they are talking about things I don't like. Running away is NEVER the answer because then others won't be able to help me.
My friend and I will play Mario Kart! My friend says, "Lets see who will win!"
I say, "I will win! I am better than you!
This comment is not very nice! It can make others feel bad. We can THINK NOT SAY. It's okay to think i will win because I think I am the best but its not okay to say that to someone else. That is called Bragging and that doesn't make others feel good.
I can say, "OOOhhh i think it will be a good game!"
"Lets see who win."
"May the best one win."
There are many kind things we can say that wont make others feel bad.
At the center kids are drawing self portraits. One of them I think looks a bit different than mine but I tell him, "hey nice job! You tried so hard!"
SAY! That is such a nice thing to say! it's okay that you thought it was different but you said something very kind. Encouraging words always help.
I really liked the new movie Kpop Demon Hunters
I make shock face: :O
or say: "SAME"
We could respond better! Facial expressions are okay but that doesn't keep the conversation going. I can make a face but also make a comment!
* :O! I watched that movie and liked it too!
* Yes! That movie was awesome!
* Oh I watched it too! The catchy songs are in my head!
These comments help keep the conversation going
In PE i really wanted to win the battle! I was in team blue but team red won! The winners got to have extra play time. I did not. This can make me feel ______.
It is important to remember that losing is okay and maybe next time my team will get the winning point.
I was playing Chutes and Ladders in class with my friend. We finished the game and the teacher said its time for lunch. Oh no but we forgot to clean up. When we get back to class The teachers says to everyone, "Students, when we play with a toy we ALL need to remember to clean up. This classroom is for everyone, we can't be messy."
Oh no. I know i played with the game and i forgot to clean up. I can feel a bit sad or embarrassed about it but it is NOT a big problem. I can just REMEMBER TO CLEAN UP NEXT TIME.
Someone has a different hair style and it looks a little different to me. I tell them, "Hey your hair looks weird."
Think NEVER say
Just because it is different doesn't mean that its "weird". We can say a compliment, "Your hair is different cool!" or we can say nothing at all.
at the center someone wants to use a crayon. I ask them what color. They say LELLOW PLEATH. I laugh and say Oh thats s a silly way to say it. You talk funny
THINK NOT SAY
My mom says, "Today was such a long day."
I make a frowny face---> :(
We can respond better!
Making the frowny face is okay but lets say more.
:( I'm sorry your day was so long.
:( maybe tomorrow will be better
:( don't worry the weekend is coming soon!
Michelle is learning to write her name. She has a tough time with the letter "e". She writes it backwards. A little girl looks at her paper and laughs! The little girl says, "Oh my goodness! Look at your letter "e" hahaha its backwards that's so silly!." How can Michelle feel?
Michelle can feel SAD and EMBARRASSED.
This is a THINK and not SAY comment. Some people can write differently or say things differently but we shouldn't make any comments that make others sad.
My mom and dad said its bed time but I DON'T WANT TO go to sleep. I tell them, "i want to run away!!!!"
Is yelling a good way to solve our problem?
* I can ask my mom and dad for a couple more minutes
* I can take deep breaths and go to bed. My brain needs to rest.
* Running away means I won't see my mommy and daddy anymore! I don't want to run away I can just say I feel upset.
My friend at school leaves a mess! I cleaned up my things but he didn't so i tell him, "You are so messy! You need to clean up!"
THINK!!!! Not Say.
We don't call others names. We can instead ask if they need help cleaning up or remind them to clean up.
"Hey, you forgot to clean up, you want me to help you?" or "I finished cleaning up already want someone help?"
Michelle is talking to me but her breath is smelly. I say, "Oh no Michelle you had too much coffee your breath smells bad!"
Michelle: :(
Its okay to think something or someone doesn't smell the best but its not okay to say that! They can feel bad about it or think I am making fun of them.
If i say a comment like that then other people will start to make fun of them as well.
My friend says, "I don't like playing Among Us."
i say: WHAT!!!!! :O
We can be shocked but lets say more!
:O, What! But Among us is so fun!
:O But I LOVE among us.
Trinice tells me I have to play with friends before I can go in the ball pit room. I don't want to play because they are running toooooo fast!
How can I feel?
I can feel upset or disappointed that I can't use the ball pit.
BUT it is important to also play with friends. We can play with friends then have what we want as well.
I did not get all my points at home, So i did not get enough money for my game. UGH That made me so upset!
Its okay to feel upset! But That doesn't mean I will never get the points, it just means I need to work a little harder and I will get the points next time.
A girl wears a silly hairstyle for crazy hair day at school. I tell her, "Your hair looks so cool!"
Appropriate! Its a compliment and it can make her feel nice
A kid in class draws a Red sus AMONG US character. His drawing is not the best so i tell him, "You know that's not how the red among us looks. That is kind of ugly."
THINK NOT SAY!
It's okay to think that their drawing needs a bit of work but we shouldn't say it. They may have tried their very best! I can pick something i DO like about it to compliment it. "I like your coloring!"
"You colored it so nicely". "We both tried so hard with our drawings!"
When talking to my friend at school he says, "It's so hot! I want to go home and eat all the ice-cream we have!
That's so silly! So i just laugh and then don't say anything.
Is this a good way to keep the conversation going?
No. Sometimes people say things that are super silly and of course it's okay to laugh BUT we can keep the conversation going.
"hahah that's so funny! I want to go home and have a cold shower!"
"hahaha silly! I want to go home and eat pizza!"
