What bone is known as the funny bone? + Where is it found?

Humerus + Upper arm

200

Which part of the heart is the most muscular and why?

Left Ventricle - It needs to pump the hardest to ensure there is enough pressure to get the blood around the body

Describe ARTERIES, VEINS and CAPILLARIES

Arteries – carry blood that is rich in oxygen away from the heart

Capillaries – small blood vessels where the exchange of nutrients and wastes occur between the body cells and the blood

Veins – carry blood that is low in oxygen back to the heart

There are 3 main types of muscle contractions (Concentric, Eccentric and Isometric) - Differentiate between them and provide an example of each (movement and the muscle contracting)

C - Shortening phase of the muscle to produce force. (Bicep in upwards phase B.Curl, Quads in upwards phase of squat etc..)

E - Lengthening phase of the muscle during movement (Bicep in downward phase etc..)

I - Muscle produces force but there is no change in muscle size (Abdominal in plank, and quads/hamstrings in wall sit)

400

Describe the structure/layers of a bone and what the main function of each is?

Bone marrow (red blood cell production), Spongy bone (Helps shock absorption), Compact (Provides strength, shape and protection)

400
Describe the 4 components of blood and their main functions

Red blood cells – transports oxygen

White blood cells – fights infection/bacteria

Plasma – Fluid that helps carry blood cells around the body

Platelets – Create blood clots

400

What is Residual volume and what is it important?

The amount of air left in the lungs following a maximal exhalation. There is always some air remaining to prevent the lungs from collapsing.

Describe the pathway of blood as it moves through the heart, during the re-oxygenation process.

SVC/IVC > R.A > T.V > R.V > P.V > P.A > LUNGS (REOXYGENATED) > P.V > L.A > B.V/M.V > L.V > A.V > A > BODY

Explain PULMONARY DIFFUSION

Process of gas exchange, between the deoxygenated blood (CO2) and the alveoli (oxygen). Gases want to move from an area of high concentration to area of low concentration through the thin capillaries. CO2 is high in the blood, so it moves into the lungs. Oxygen is high in the alveoli, so it moves into the blood. This exchange reoxygenates the blood and ready to be distributed around the body.
