Name 2 types of resources.

•Human resources. These are the employees of the business and are generally its most important asset. Businesses that provide a service are very labour intensive and labour costs will be the major business expense on the profit and loss statement. Human resource management is incredibly important and strategies include: training and development; generating a positive corporate culture and rewards management (salary’s and working conditions) are all important as are the leadership skills of managers

•Information resources. These resources include the knowledge and data required by the business such as market research, sales reports, economic forecasts, technical material and legal advice.

•Physical resources include equipment, machinery, buildings and raw materials. Businesses will need to ensure that they have ‘’leading edge technology’, premises fit for manufacturing or retail (depending on the type of business) and the best quality inputs at best cost.

•Financial resources are the funds the business uses to purchase assets and run the business and also to meet its obligations to various creditors.

Explain the impact of economic influences on business.

The Australian economy experiences economic cycles of ‘booms’ and ‘busts’. These periods of high and low economic activity are referred to as the business cycle. After a period of prosperity, business activity gradually slows until a recession  is reached. Eventually, business picks up again until prosperity is restored. This completes the cycle. These cycles are a basic feature of our economic system.

•Proximity to customers – may not be important for certain businesses such as wholesalers or mail/internet order businesses such as Amazon. Very important for ‘bricks and mortar’ retail.

•Proximity to support services like accountants, solicitors, medical centres etc. – no longer as important due to technology, but for medical centres, this will usually be important (e.g. doctors being close to chemists or x-ray facility)
