Social Impact of Technology
A student plans to conduct a research project on the impact of social media on youth. Assess the suitability of using both a questionnaire AND a case study as research methods for this topic
- Questionnaires: The questions can be open or closed questions leading to both quantitative and qualitative responses.
- Case study: allow for one person or a small group of people to be studied with targeted research focussing on the beliefs and behaviours of the subjects. This data could then be compared to the generalisations of the questionnaire to see where the similarities and differences lie.
- Questionnaires are relatively easy to organise and administered to a large sample
- Questionnaire responses may not be reliable depending on how the questions are written/checked/piloted
- Case studies can be time consuming.
