Yearbook staff
A big part of the book, like “Athletics” or “Clubs.”
Section
A pre-made layout for keeping the style consistent.

All the main written content on a page (not captions)
copy
an annual publication full of information and photos, listing the events or aspects of the previous year
the yearbook!
The leader of the staff; makes final decisions.
Editor-in-Chief
One side of a sheet in the book.
Page
The biggest photo on a spread; grabs attention first.
dominant photo
Posed headshots of students and staff for the “People” section.
portraits
The absolute last day to send pages to the publisher—no late work!
final deadline
Oversees page layouts and theme consistency.
Design Editor
Two facing pages that work together as one design.
Spread
A smaller extra element like a chart, poll, or mini-story.
mod
A large, bold title on a page or spread that introduces the main topic.
header
The bit each page with the page number and section/topic
folio
In charge of one part of the book (sports, student life, academics, etc.).
Section Editor
The book’s edge with the title and school year.
Spine
A photo or color goes all the way to the edge of the page
bleed
A smaller title just below the header that adds more detail or context.
subheader
The editor who ensures that the images meet quality standards and deadlines are met
Photo Manager
review and improve all written content for the yearbook
Copy Editor
The center fold where pages meet; don’t place important faces here.
gutter
Empty space that makes the page feel balanced.
whitespace
Words under a photo explaining what’s happening and who’s in it.
caption
the spreadsheet that we will use to organize the order of content and sections, along with many other things
