In Every Tree for Itself, why would you die?

You did not grab enough water and air sticks.

100

Animals are what?

Consumers

100

Where do you get energy from?

The sun

100

What is an ecosystem?

An ecosystem is made up of living organisms (like animals, plants, and bugs) in an area with all of the non-living organisms (like water, dirt, rocks, and the sun).

100

What is a chemical change?

any change that creates something new.

200

Where do we get energy from?

The sun!

200

What is makes something a producer?

a plant. A producer makes it own food with photosynthesis.

200

What does an arrow in a model show?

The arrows show the movement of matter in an ecosystem.

200

If a first consumer is introduced into an ecosystem, what would happen to a producer?

The producer would stay alive more because there is less hunting them.

200

Describe these two substances: wood shavings and baking soda. Pick 2

a. they are solids

b. they are a solid and a liquid

c. they are white and foamy

d. they are white and tan

A, D
300

What do plants get their matter from? I'm thinking of two. Think of the labs we did at the beginning of the module.

water and air

300

What is a food web?

multiple food chains that cross between each other

300

Does a bear get energy directly from the sun?

No, It has to eat something to gain that animals energy. That animal would either eat a plant or another animal. If it eats a plant the plant gets the energy directly from the sun.

300

Would an ecosystem survive if all their plants died?

No, they would have no way of getting energy or matter to be able to stay alive.

300

What do air particles look like?

Particles of matter have space between them and move quickly past each other.

400

Why would a plant die?

The plant would die because it doesn't get enough matter (from air, water, and soil), energy (from the sun), or something eats it.

400

What is a consumer?

Consumers are animals that each something else. They have to eat something to be able to survive.

400

What does energy help animals do?

Grow, hunt, repair and injury, or/ and stay warm.

400
What happens to an ecosystem when a new carnivore is introduced?

The herbivores will have a harder time staying alive. The producers will have less hunting them, so they will have a lot more producers.

Eventually the carnivores will have less too eat because they have eaten all of the herbivores and they will die as well.

400

To have a fair test, which variables are most important to keep the same during different experiments? Pick 2

a. starting temperature of substances

b. Starting color of substance

c. final temperature of each substance

d. Starting amount of substances in the micture

A, D

500
Using the experiments we have done, why don't we need soil? Use examples from Von Helmont, Every tree for itself, growing our pea plants, and Photosynthesis game.

depends on answer

500
Create a food chain (need to have arrows labeled)

Soil

Bear

Sun

Algae

Air

Fish

Water

Mushrooms

500

If an animal dies of a natural cause, what happened to its matter and energy?

It gets taken by the decomposer and the matter is brought back to the soil.

500

Identify 3 questions that could help identify if a chemical change has occurred during the experiment?

a. Does the color change?

b. Are there bubbles in the beaker?

c. Does a mixture form?

d. Does the temperature change?
