What is force measured in?
Newtons
What is the definition of gravity?
Gravity is the force of attraction between any two objects
Is sir Isaac Newton still alive?
No
By the time he reached 80 years of age, Newton was experiencing digestion problems and had to drastically change his diet and mobility. In March 1727, Newton experienced severe pain in his abdomen and blacked out, never to regain consciousness. He died the next day, on March 31, 1727, at the age of 84.
What is the definition of Force?
Forces are pushes or pulls
True/False
Air Resistance is a Contact Force
True
Which planet would have the greatest gravitational pull if Jupiter has a diameter of about 142,800km which is more than 11 times the diameter of Earth. It's volume is over 1,300 times the volume of Earth. This means that Jupiter is so big that over 1,300 Earths could fit inside of it.
Jupiter would as it is larger and heavier
Did Sir Isaac Newton do well at school?
No he did not do very well at school
True/False
Your weight is the same on the moon and Earth but your mass is less on the moon
False
Your mass is the same on the moon and Earth but your weight is less on the moon
In science experiments force can be measured using?
Spring Balance
The size of Gravitational pull depends on what two things?
1. The masses of the objects
2.How far apart the objects are
What was Newtons greatest discovery?
His greatest discovery was his theory of gravitation
State 3 ways of reducing friction?
ball bearings, lubricants and the weight of the object
Draw a free body Diagram to show someone pushing on a block with a force of 25N and a frictional force of 10N acting on the block? What is the net Force?
Net force is 15N
Explain the difference between mass and weight?
Mass is the actual amount of material contained in a body and is measured in kg whereas weight is the force exerted by the gravity on that object and is measured in Netwons
What was one of Newton's main faults?
His main fault was that he couldn't take criticism and he spent a lot of time fighting with the other scientists
A group of students wanted to test the effect of cross-sectional area on air resistance. They decided to do this by running a toy car with a piece of cardboard on the front of it down a ramp. They changed the area of the cardboard for each trial. They measured the distance from the bottom of the ramp to where the car stopped each trial. They knew that a bigger air resistance would mean that the car did not travel as far.
Write a hypothesis for this experiment.
It was hypothesised that the greater the cross sectional area of the cardboard the shorter distance the car will travel. This is because the greater air resistance will slow the car down.
Describe the motion of a broken down car if a person is pushing it with a force of 250N and there is a Frictional force of 100N?
The car would be accelerating in the direction that the person is pushing it
If the gravity on Earth is 10 N/kg what would be the difference in weight between a 50kg rock and a 40kg rock?
50 x 10 = 500N
40 x 10 = 400N
500 - 400 = 100N
Did Sir Isaac Newton's father encourage Isaac to become a scholar?
No he died the day before Isaac was born
State 4 Contact and 3 non-contact forces.
Contact: Frictional Force, Tension Force, Normal Force, Air Resistance Force, Applied Force,Spring Force
Non-Contact: Gravitational Force, Electrical Force, Magnetic Force
