Example: Being in the Yellow Zone during a read aloud- not a great choice
Being in the Yellow Zone at recess while still being safe - great choice!

When is it okay to be in the Red Zone?
Things happen and we may have Red Zone feelings. That's okay! It's about the choices we make when we are feeling in the Red Zone that make the difference.
Example: If a friend bumps into you and you fall and hurt your knee. It's okay to feel frustrated that your friend wasn't paying attention. You could let your Red Zone feelings take over (yelling) or you could use a strategy to calm down and then use your words "can you please be more careful next time". See the difference?
