What is Off-Duty time?
This minimizes empty miles, increases asset utilization and profitability by using the return trip of a route.
What is a backhaul?
A planning tool that uses specific algorithms & constraints to provide an output that minimizes overall transportation costs.
What is routing software?
This is the solution where DHL acts as a motor carrier, using our own equipment and drivers.
What is dedicated fleet?
This tool takes the outputs from the solutions design process and helps develop the budget and pricing for the customer.
What is the cost model?
You need this type of tractor if the route is a longer haul and the driver is required to layover.
What is tandem axle sleeper (or sleeper tractor)?
The DirectRoute software module used to determine resources.
What is resource pro?
Coordinates that identify a pickup or delivery location.
What is latitude and longitude?
DHL's fleet management system.
What is Ortec?
This term refers to a secondary location besides the main depot where we hire drivers and park equipment.
What is a domicile (or remote)?
This refers to the total weight of the tractor and trailer, the cargo, and accessories.
What is Gross Vehicle Weight (GVW)?
The activity performed after route design that calculates the driver, tractor, & trailer requirements.
What is resource scheduling?
This routing software is a web based application and we typically use it for projects with high volume density in metro areas.
What is WorkWave?
This fleet technology solution includes electronic driver logs, fleet telematics, and cameras.
What is Samsara?
This is the term that describes when one driver takes over for another driver in the same tractor for the purpose of continuing the route without delay.
What is slip-seat?
You need this equipment installed on a trailer if you are delivering heavy freight to stores that don't have receiving docks.
What is a lift-gate?
The group responsible for the operational planning of backhauls in the day-to-day routing.
What is the dedicated fleet control tower capacity team (DCT)?
Hours of service, time windows, weight capacity, cube capacity
What are routing constraints?
We perform daily convenience store deliveries to over 6,000 locations across the US for this customer.
Who is 7-Eleven?
This routing technique means that no deliveries/pick-ups can be made on the first route leg but works well for a high service & low demand region.
What are doubles (double pups)?
A formula used by DOT to determine the appropriate maximum gross vehicle weight for any commercial motor vehicle based on axle number and spacing.
What is the bridge formula?
This spreadsheet tool is used to calculate the number of tractors and trailers for TL's, shuttles, and/or simple point to point routing.
What is the scheduling & utilization tool (or dusty tool)?
This problem describes when you have a collection of cities and cost of travel between each pair of them and you need to find the shortest way of visiting all of the cities and returning to your starting point.
What is the traveling salesman problem?
