Paul wants Timothy to stop those who are teaching false doctrine.

It teaches us to say no to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, godly, upright lives.

He wants Philemon to have full understanding of all that we have in Christ.

Formerly, God spoke through the prophets; now HE speaks by His Son.
Why are we to be joyful when we face trials?
Because trials test our faith, helping us to develop such qualities as perseverance, maturity, and wisdom.
Why does Paul refer to himself as the worst of sinners?
He feels that way because before he became a believer, he persecuted the church.
How does Paul describe people who are without Christ, as he once was?
Foolish, disobedient, deceived, and enslaved. Living in malice and envy, hating and being hated.
He has "refreshed the hearts of the saints," or encouraged other believers.
So that by His death He might destroy Satan and become a faithful high priest by making atonement for the sins of His people.

A divisive person are those who start foolish arguments and quarrels that are dividing people. Paul says to warn them twice and then, if they persist, have nothing to do with them.
