YES for UC(they all have the same one) and Private (they all have varying ones), NO for CSU's

Does a D count as passing?
NO, a D passes the course for your high school requirement but NOT for applying to CSU/UC. If you receive a D or F in any A-G requirement you must retake the course if you intend on applying to a CSU or UC

If I want to be a doctor, I should put all of my focus in being involved in things that involve hospitals or medicine.
False, a key in being competitive for college is being well rounded. Often times your interest may change from what you thought you wanted to do in high school to what you actually end up pursuing in college, always keep an open mind.

What are the sections that comprise the ACT?
Reading, English, Math, Science, and an optional Writing poriton

How formal is the attire for a college interview?
Business casual. Stick to solid colors, a full suit is not needed but nice slacks (or a lengthy skirt/dress with stockings) with a formal shirt is more than appropriate. Don't be afraid to spruce it up with a tie gentlemen!

What is the "C" requirement of A-G?
3 years of math, starting at Algebra, fulfilled after Algebra II

What are the two types of loans? How do they work?
Subsidized, unsubsidized. The unsubsidized loan accumulates interest WHILE you are still in school, the subsidized loan remains at a flat rate until after you graduate.

Is it more desirable to participate in 10 different activities for short periods of time or to take leadership roles in 3 different activities for an extended period

The college board caps the number of times a student can take the ACT at 12 attempts!

If I'm an incoming Freshman and I've just completed my foreign language requirement of 2 years in middle school, should I keep taking the language?
YES, UC/CSU requires 2 years of foreign language but recommends 3, colleges love to see students go above and beyond requirements!

Does babysitting count as a job? Why or why not?
Babysitting counts as a job as long as you're getting paid for your services! If you babysit once a month while a couple goes out on a romantic evening, that is a pretty steady job!

If you take the SAT more than once, how do you determine your actual score? The highest score from each section combined, the average score of all attempts, the highest score for any one test, or the score the last time you take the test?
The score that gets recorded as your final score is the HIGHEST score for any one test.

When should you start the personal statement process?
The most common time to start is the summer before your senior year. You want to give yourself plenty of time to complete the prompts and continuously revisit your work to make improvements.

What are A-G requirements? What is their purpose?
The UC/CSU requirements to apply. “The intent of the A-G subject requirements is to ensure that students have attained a body of general knowledge that will provide breadth and perspective to new, more advanced study.”

What are refund checks?
Money left over from your financial aid package that gets paid directly to you to use for whatever you may like: books, rent, a new computer, clothes, etc.

Does being involved in extra curricular activities pick up the slack for failing grades?
NO! Extra curricular activities should be seen as an asset to your academics, not a replacement of them. Colleges like to see that students are well rounded, if you aren't doing so well in your core classes, a bunch of extra curriculars are probably more harmful than helpful!

Do scholarships get paid directly to you?
MOST of the time they don't. With very few exceptions, scholarships are paid to your institution and the school then allocates the money to you after assessing the cost of your tuition and other fees
