The mockingbird is a bird that only pleases people. It sings a pleasant song and then flies away. The symbolism extends the innocent souls in the book who are misunderstood. They try to do good things and are punished for it. Just like killing a mockingbird, hurting these men is a sin (Boo Radley and Tom Robinson).

Why does the poet use the metaphor of, 'dark rose veins' to describe the carpet's image?
The roses are an association with the image of the carpet - flowers in the pattern. They could also be veins - literal as in the veins that carry blood (red, like a rose) through the body and keep us alive and metaphorically the children’s lives being pumped into the creation of the carpet because it is their livelihood as well as taking away their childhood.

What idea does Jem's change over the novel represent?
Jem represents the idea of bravery in the novel, and the way that his definition changes over the course of the story is important. When the story begins, Jem's idea of bravery is simply touching the side of the Radley house and then only because "In all his life, Jem had never declined a dare." But as the story progresses, Jem learns about bravery from Atticus facing a mad dog, from Mrs. Dubose's fight with addiction, and from Scout's confrontation with the mob at the jail, among others. Along the way, he grows from a boy who drags his sister along as a co-conspirator to a young gentleman who protects his Scout and tries to help her understand the implications of the events around her.
