Explain the meaning/story behind the name ‘Abu Hurayrah.’

Abu Hurayrah means ‘the father of a kitten.’ The prophet (SAW) nicknamed him Abu Hurayrah because he often carried a little kitten in his arms.

Leaving that which doesn’t concern you is a result of negative curiosity which will cause you to eavesdrop or spy on people ( تَجَسُّس) to satisfy your curiosity. Not understanding the full story can lead to assumption and the creation of false stories which will eventually turn into rumors you spread about people (فاحشة). It can ultimately lead to backbiting, slandering, and an overall waste of time which should be spent on perfecting your deen.

In Surat al-Luqman, Allah SWT says, وَإِن طَائِفَتَانِ مِنَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ اقْتَتَلُوا فَأَصْلِحُوا بَيْنَهُمَا. Here Allah SWT commands us to help resolve issues between the believers, so it is permissible.
