2. If he attempts to walk away from his group, gently place hand(s) on his shoulder and walk him towards designated room. Do not allow him to wander off.

3. Have Brian sit furthest from the exit of the room and arrange furniture to create barriers to make it more difficult for him to elope from the room.

4. Present scheduled activities and tell him to engage.

5. He engages in task, tell him “Good job”. *Deliver attention every 2 minutes for wanted behaviors (engaged in task, staying seated, staying in designated room).

6. He completes scheduled activity, deliver an unscheduled activity while he is waiting for thenext scheduled activity to be presented.

7. Observe for precursor behaviors (gets off seat, walks towards exit of the room).

8. If precursor behaviors are observed, immediately stand by the exit door and tell him to sitback down.

9. If he sits back down, tell him “Good job” then preset an activity and tell him to engage.

10. If he engages in eloping behaviors, gently place your hand on his shoulder, walk him back todesignated room and have him sit down.

Protocol for responding to Inappropriate attention seeking behaviors for Norman 

What is . . . 

1. Greet Norman upon arrival and guide him to his assigned room.

2. Seat Norman out of reach of his peers (opposite side of the table/opposite side of the room) and furthest from the exit of room.

3. Staff will position themselves between Norman and peers to prevent inappropriate attention seeking behaviors.

4. Once seated, staff will deliver assigned tasks and engage with Norman in tasks.

5. Staff will deliver attention (ask how he is doing, deliver praises for engagement in tasks, etc....) to Norman every minute to prevent him from seeking attention from staff.

6. Before working with peers or being occupied with a task, inform Norman if he needs something to say, “Excuse me”.

7. If Norman engages in inappropriate attention seeking behaviors (yelling, cursing, touching others), Do Not tell Norman to “stop”, “No” or “don’t do that” because he is seeking those responding and it will increase target behaviors. Instead, redirect Norman by redirecting him in a task and delivering praises for engagement . Example: Stand between Norman and targeted individual and say, “Hey buddy, come help me out with this (task)”. Deliver a praise for engagement.

4. If Malcom engages in task, tell him “Good job”. 

5. If Malcom stops engaging task, redirect him to task.

6. If he does not reengage in task within 20 seconds, tell him if he needs a break to touch the break card. *This will give Malcom more opportunities to practice requesting for a break by touching the break card.

7. If he touches the break card or gives it to staff, immediately remove the task and tell him, “Good job asking for a break.

8. Deliver a 3-minute break.

9. If Malcom engages in scratching behaviors, use program CPI procedures to block scratching behaviors. Remove peers from the room until Malcom’s behaviors have ceased for 5-minutes.

10. Staff will stand out of Malcom’s reach (opposite sides of the table), and continue delivering prompts to engage (say, are you ready to start) every 2 minutes until he engages in task.

11. Malcolm engages in presented task, tell him “Good job”.

What are some Major things to remember about John Wood ? 

1. John Wood has a history of aggression towards peers. Do not forget to seat him opposite of his peers. 

2. Do not allow him to engage in previously chosen reinforcer (including horse shoe) during his break time. If he changes his mind regarding his reinforcer, both chosen reinforcers will not be available during breaks.

3. John Wood needs to be escorted with a staff at all times. This includes taking dishes to the sink or getting supplies
