What are the four functions of behavior?

Sensory, Escape/Avoidance, Attention, Tangible

100

What does the A stand for and what does it mean?

Antecedent; the events, actions, or circumstance that occur before a behavior

100

What does BIP stand for?

Behavior Intervention Plan

A child is instructed to complete their homework by their parent. The child then rips the homework page and is told to go to bed early.

ESCAPE/AVOIDANCE

200

What does the B stand for and what does it mean?

Behavior; the observable behavior (make sure it is written objectively!)

Where can you find a BIP?

In the clients binder and in the FBA or progress report.

What does the C stand for and what does it mean?

Consequence; the actions or responses that followed the behavior

What helpful information can you find in the BIP

The operational definition of the target behavior.

The onset/offset of the target behavior.

Client specific interventions/strategies to use before and after the target behavior occurs.

What is ABC data collection?

It is an assessment tool used to gather information that is used when addressing behavior and creating behavior interventions plans. It can be documented by anyone in ABA team (therapist, program sup, BCBA). It is used to identify the hypothesized function of the target behavior.
