Making Comparisons
Using a linking word such as like or as
Simile

Inference
Making comparisons without a linking word; instead of being like another, one thing is another

Opposite of inferred- idea of message is fully stated or revealed by the writer
Explicit
The use of the same sound to start several words in a row
Alliteration
Plot element- The turning point of a story
Climax
The narrator talks directly to the reader
2nd person POV

Genre
When the author mentions or refers to something or someone famous that is not actually part of the story
Allusion
Plot element- conflict begins to get resolved
Falling Action
The narrator is outside the story and only know the thoughts/feelings of the character.
3rd person limited POV
The series of events that form a story in a specific order

A contradiction between what is expected to happen and what actually happens.

The narrator is outside the story and knows the thoughts/feelings of more than one character.
