You just finished the last question of the test but you haven't submitted it yet... what should you do before you submit?

Go back and check your answers. Make sure you marked the answers you want.

Austin usually eats breakfast at home but he was running late and didn't have time to. What should he do?

He should eat breakfast at school, even if it's something little. Remember you can't get up and do anything until everyone is done taking the test, that includes eating! The last thing you want is your stomach rumbling during the test!

100

When I'm done with the test, I can talk to my friends or play games on my chromebook.

False; once you finish your test, you have to sit at your desk quietly until everyone else is done. No talking and no games, so you might as well take your time and try your best!

100

How old am I?

27

A new video game came out and you want to try it out right before you go to bed. Should you play it?

Remember that you never perform your best when you're tired. You're going to be using a lot of brain power for the test so make sure you give your brain the rest it needs!

Josh is stuck on a math problem. He isn't sure which answer could be the right one. What should he do?

Plug in and try each answer to see which ones make the most sense. If you're still stuck, take your best guess!

All students in West Virginia who are in grades 3-8 take this test.

True; in fact all states have some sort of end-of-the-year state testing for their students

200

What is my favorite sport?

Softball; Principal Hedrick was my softball coach growing up!

I just submitted my test and I'm bored. What should I do?

Once you are finished, you are not allowed to do anything until everyone in your class has finished. Your teacher will have things for you to keep you busy like coloring sheets or word searches. Now is also the one time that you can get away with taking a nap in class!

Katie struggles with reading and is having a hard time answering questions based on a story she just read. What should she do?

Read the question you are being asked and look for those words in the story and underline/highlight them. Chances are the answer is right near those key words.

Example: If the story is asking you about a boy named Fred, look where the story talks about Fred.

The state test determines whether or not I pass 4th grade.

False; only your grades determine whether or not you pass. The state test just gives your teachers and the state a better idea of what you have learned and what we need to do better next year.

300

What is my favorite food?

Hibachi or sushi

400

One of the questions have a few words that are bolded. What does that mean?

Something that is bolded means that it is important and that you should read it carefully.

400

Leah is taking the writing portion of the test, but she can't think of anything to write. What should she do?

Writer's block happens to everyone (even adults!) Use your scratch paper and write some ideas down as you think of them. Remember that anything that has been written has taken some time to actually write it so take your time!

400

Teachers cannot help you during the test.

True; teachers are not allowed to help you answer a question.

400

DOUBLE OR NOTHING!

Talk with your teammates and decide how many points you want to wager for this question. Write it down along with your group number! I will ask you the question once I have all of the notecards! If you get it right, you earn those points. If not, you lose them so be smart!

December 28, to be exact!

500

One of the questions asks to "Select all that apply". What does that mean?

These questions can have multiple answers. If this is the case, read the question and each answer carefully. It will allow you to select more than one answer.

Matt struggles taking tests. He gets really nervous and second-guesses himself. What could he do to calm down?

Take a deep breath and don't panic! This test only measures a few things about you, not everything. Remember that you are more than this test, and that you know more than you think. This is your time to show off everything you know!

500

Similar to a regular test I would take in class, I only have a certain amount of time to take the state test.

False; you get to have as much time as you need to complete it. Might as well take your time and make use of it!
