Internal dialogue is a characters thoughts or feelings. Authors use internal dialogue in order to develop the perspective of characters.

In this quote this is the first time that Mia has realized this. Because of this, Mia is feeling confused. The author uses Mia's personal thoughts in order to convey Mia's feelings, even though she is not literally saying these things out loud.

An affix is a "part" that is added to a word, either at the beginning or at the end of the word, that changes the meaning/affects the meaning of the word.
What is the difference between internal dialogue and external dialogue?
Internal dialogue: words characters speak/think to themselves.
External Dialogue: words characters speak out loud
