What tasks would be done when entering Ellis Island?
Within the center, immigrants would be inspected by government workers, usually being asked for information from a list of various questions such as their name, age, gender, occupation, country of origin, race, relations, destination, money, health condition, etc. They were then examined by doctors and nurses for any disability or handicap. If immigrants did not pass their inspections, they did not receive their stamps of approval, and were forced to return to their country of origin with the expense of the trip.
