The desk binder in the front desk drawer (can also be found on Teams!)

A resident/parent wants to speak to your supervisor. How do you respond?

Ask them for their name, ID number, email address, and any details they'd be willing to share. Let them know you will inform your supervisor right away and someone will be in contact with them soon.

(Do not ever send a resident/parent to Zach or Leeanne's office without asking first please!)

100

While on call (primary or secondary), where are you allowed to be?

You should be in/around the building unless you are getting food from a nearby building. A good rule of thumb: nowhere North of Lindsey and nowhere South of Timberdell!

100

When are weeklies due?

Every Monday by 12PM

You learn during an intentional that one of your residents is struggling to afford college and the financial stress is causing them to fall behind in their grades. What could you do/recommend for this student?

You should direct the resident to the Student Financial Center or to Money Coaches. You can also encourage them to apply for CASH before the deadline (February 1st). Additionally, in some cases, a BIT report might be appropriate, especially if grades are falling due to financial stress.

200

What is the #1 most important thing to do when handling any move arounds, move ins, or move outs?

Record the resident's information and the date on the move log!

200

A delivery driver is asking to either be let onto one of the floors or to leave a resident's delivery with you. How do you assist?

Inform the delivery driver that we are not allowed to let guests onto the floors due to security risks. Additionally, we do not accept packages at the front desk. They will need to contact the resident or the person whose name is on the order for further assistance or bring the package to the Student Post Office (Cross B) during business hours.

While on rounds, you see OUPD and paramedics in the lobby. You were not the one who called them. What should you do?

You and your co-RA should approach OUPD and introduce yourselves as RAs. Ask for some information regarding the situation and any students involved, if they are able to share. You should then immediately call up to the Zone 1 duty phone for further instructions.

200

True or False: If you forget to log intentionals before the deadline, you can email your notes to Leeanne.

FALSE. These will not count toward your intentionals whatsoever. ALL intentionals MUST be logged on Roompact.

200

Your resident tells you in passing that they didn't eat dinner last night because they ran out of swipes and points and they can't afford to use real money for food. What can you tell the resident?

You should direct this resident to the OU Food Pantry by sharing the location, website, and working hours. If the problem is severe, a BIT report may be beneficial.

300

When someone is moving out, what should you check before you complete their move out process?

Make sure they do not have any resources checked out to them (carts, pool equipment, mail key, access card, etc.)

300

List at least 3 rules regarding working the desk.

No non-staff guests behind the front desk; no headphones at the front desk; no inappropriate music/shows/movies at the desk; any games or shows need to be paused immediately if a guest approaches; no inappropriate language/topics in front of desk guests; work-related tasks must be completed before anything else; show up to desk 5 minutes before your shift begins; etc.

While on rounds, you find a beer can left behind on one of the social lounge tables. What should you do with it?

Make sure you're with your co-RA. Take a photo of the alcohol and write an IR. Both of you should dispose of the alcohol together.

300

Who is the Residence Life Student Intervention Specialist?

Theresa Elmore

Someone approaches the desk to ask you how to reserve the storm shelter for an event. How do you respond?

Give them RLC Leeanne's email information. You should also inform them that storm shelter reservations in McCasland are granted only to Housing and Housing-related/approved organizations.

If they are approved, they'll get an approval email from Leeanne. They will need to show desk/duty staff this email in order to be let into the storm shelter for their event.

400

Your resident wants to move out early. What do they need to fill out before they can begin this process?

The early move out request form on their Housing Portal

400

How late is the front desk open? (For weekdays and weekends)

Monday thru Thursday, and Sunday: until 10pm

Friday and Saturday: until midnight

Scenario: A fire alarm has gone off for the entire building and you are in the middle of evacuating and encouraging your residents to evacuate. One of your residents messages you saying, "Do we really need to leave the building? I just got in the shower." How do you handle this?

The resident will need to exit the shower immediately, get dressed, and evacuate the building. If the resident is refusing to evacuate, the RA should inform the RLC/GRC and any present fire marshals. Failure to evacuate during a fire alarm (drill or not) is a violation of OU's policy and is, in some cases, illegal.

400

Explain (to the best of your ability) the pet policy.

Pets in the residence halls must be service animals or emotional support animals that are approved through the ADRC. Fish are allowed, with a 10-gallon limit. Pet policy violations are subject to a $200/day fine (for each day the policy is being knowingly violated).

During an intentional, your resident begins to disclose a Title IX-related situation that happened to them. Before they continue discussing the situation, what should you tell them?

You should politely interrupt them to explain that you are a mandatory reporter regarding these situations. You should then ask them, "Knowing this, do you still want to talk about that situation?" Regardless of their answer, you should share the OU Advocates information with them. Inform them that OU Advocates is the only 100% confidential resource available at OU.
