100

Describe four ways that energy resources are used by individual and communities in everyday life.

Energy resources can be used in daily life such as heating, cooling, lighting and cooking.

100

Temporary changes (3).

Stretching an elastic band, pressing down a keyboard button, and compressing a spring.

200

Explain how internal and external forces are related.

Internal forces are created by external forces. For example stretching an elastic band is applying an external force and by doing so you create an internal force inside the elastic band.

200

Permanent Changes (3).

Some permanent changes are bending metal or breaking a pencil or shaping clay.

300
Describe Newton's Third Law.

For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. Action forces and reaction forces are related because when you apply an action force the reaction force happens in the opposite direction.

300

List the factors that influence the selection of energy resources

Availability and accessability, societal impacts, economic impacts and environmental impacts.

400

Describe an example of an action force and its reaction.

When using a Newton's Cradle you pick up the end ball and let go causing it to become an action force as well as causing a chain reaction and the end ball on the other side fly up in the opposite direction. A perfect example of a reaction force.
400

List reasons why fossil fuels are used as an energy resource in Alberta.

It is an affordable and reliable resource. We have the infrastructure already for fossil fuels.

500

Describe the external and internal forces involved in ripping a piece of paper in half.

The internal force is shear, meaning a force that pushes parts in opposite directions resluting in it breaking. The external force is applied force meaning a force exerted on the object by you.

500

List energy resources that can be used before processing and the ones that can be used after processing.

The resources that can be used before processing are wood, wind and water. The resources that can be used after processing are nuclear, biofuel, hydro, solar and fossil fuels.
