Why is a hamburger not made of ham? Well, the answer is easy. The word "hamburger" comes from Hamburg, Germany. There, ground beef was served on a round piece of bread. Germans who moved to the U. S. brought the hamburger with them.

Many Americans call the "hamburger" a burger." There is the beef burger and the chicken burger. There is also the fish burger and turkey burger. Common toppings are lettuce, tomatoes, onions, and pickles. Ketchup, mustard, and cheese can be added. Mushrooms and bacon are also common toppings.
