Windows Longhorn build 3683 is a Milestone 3 build of Windows Longhorn and is currently the earliest leaked build of Longhorn. The build was leaked in November 2002 by XBetas, and their effect can be seen in the setup handle (advertising for their now long-gone IRC channel).

Windows "Longhorn" build 4001 is the first Milestone 4 build of Windows "Longhorn". It was leaked to BetaArchive on 2013-01-15. Prior to its leak, screenshots of this build were shown by Dr. Nicholas Rush at YouArePwned's "Yet Another Longhorn Board", and by user bashar2000 on the BetaArchive forums.

The Windows Imaging Utility (xImage.exe) was leaked. It was used by Microsoft OEM Partners to test Microsoft image technologies and was developed in parallel with the alpha versions of Longhorn. Not much is known about this build otherwise.

This build is unleaked. It was shown at WinHEC 2003 to demonstrate the new "Desktop Composition Engine" engine which produces fancy graphical effects without relying on the CPU and slowing down the system. It is a GUI/end-user interface test, as the "lab06" in the string indicates. The same system that was shown at WinHEC 2003 was used in PDC 2003 alongside a system running build 4018. A screenshot of this build is also known to exist, extracted from a Microsoft presentation about the Avalon Graphics Stack.

Windows "Longhorn" build 4033 (with a build tag of 4033.main.030717-1555) is a Milestone 6 build of the Microsoft Windows "Longhorn" operating system. Aero Wizards debuted in this build with the CD Writing Wizard, which allowed users to burn ISO images to disc.

This build is almost identical to build 4042. It has a different "About Windows" dialog which is seen in later builds and a new shortcut on the desktop, "Hang Reporting Tool". This build was 1st seen in a screenshot at PDC 2003 during the Avalon Graphics and Media (Part 2): Using Graphics, Animation and Composition in Your Applications session (CLI341) by Greg Schechter presentation to demonstrate the power of XAML in Windows. Since then, a couple more screenshots have been leaked.

What is PDC?
Windows Longhorn build 3718 is the last Milestone 3 Windows Longhorn build. It is very similar to build 3713 in features and functionality, but the Tablet PC features cannot be installed despite the files being present on this build's component media. Unlike most later builds and even a few earlier builds, it is very stable and has the less potential to have Explorer crash.

Windows Longhorn build 4000 is mentioned in the setup of Longhorn builds up to and including build 4033, where it states that a user cannot perform an upgrade installation on a build lower than 4000.

Windows Longhorn build 4011 is a Milestone 4 build of Windows Longhorn. This build is not much different from build 4008, although by this point, virtually all references to Windows XP has been removed, including the old boot screen, which was now replaced by the actual Longhorn boot screen. There's a bug that causes icons to go "fuzzy" when clicked. Desktop Composition Engine now works again, in build 4008 it was broken.

It was compiled 4 days before 4042, and as such, was technically a Milestone 6 build. This build still uses the old bootscreen and wallpaper from previous Milestone 6 builds and is less stable and usable than the lab06n complie. This build still uses pig latin in its build string. As with 4040, both opaque and transparent aero glass options are available.
Windows Longhorn build 4074 is an official WinHEC 2004 preview build, which leaked in 2004-05. This build is a Milestone 7 build of Longhornand the most famous build of Longhorn as it was distributed publicly. This build comes in multiple architectures, being x86, amd64, and ia64.
