Plots that record deeds of past heroes; stories are presented as true; stories are usually secular and associated with wars and victories.
What are Legends?
Writing or speech not meant to be taken literally. Writers use it to express ideas in vivid or imaginative ways.

A drawing representing the earth's surface or part of it, or the sky showing the position of the stars.

A figure of speech in which a comparison is implied by analogy but is not stated.

A line or diagram showing how one quantity depends on or changes with another.
What is a graph?
The technique of disrupting the chronology of a narrative by shifting to an earlier time in order to introduce information.

The high point of interest or suspense in a literary work?

A kind of humorous verse of five lines.

A conclusion derived by reasoning from facts.
What are inferences?
The emotional state of mind expressed by an author or artist in his or her work; the emotional atmosphere produced by artistic work.

A category used to classify literary and other works, usually by form, technique or content.
What is Genre?
A list of sources used or recommended in a research paper or report.
What is Bibliography?
Stories that are grounded in history but not restricted by it. The historical setting is an authentic and integral part of the story.

The technique of giving clues to coming events in a narrative.
What is Foreshadowing?
A character tells the story directly using I, me and we.

The gist of a passage; central thought.
What is the Main Idea?
A central idea, concern or purpose in a literary work.
