 Tutoring DON’Ts

  • Expect the tutor to do your homework for you.
  • Think the tutor will cram with you for several hours before an exam.
  • Assume that the tutor will remind you about upcoming assignments and appointments.
  • Expect to get an individual tutoring appointment at the last minute. Plan ahead!

Other ways to get help

  • Ask your instructor for help
  • Ask your teaching assistant (TA) for help.
  • Ask your instructor about being paired with successful students in the course.
  • Ask the department for contacts in the major who may be able to help.
  • Post flyers around campus letting others know that you’re seeking tutoring assistance.
  • Form a study group.
  • Hire a paid tutor. It will be a worthwhile investment!
