What is Global Warming?

A change in the average temperate on Earth

100

Explain how the Earth's atmosphere is like the glass in a greenhouse.

The build up of carbon dioxide create a barrier, so the heat from the Earth has no where to escape, and so the heat becomes trapped. It causes the heat on Earth to increase because the heat cannot escape the Earth's atmosphere.

100

What do scientists believe is the main cause of Global Temperature?

The increase in human population and human activity.

100

What are some effects of global warming?

Increased temperatures on Earth. This will lead to more animals dying, decreased habitats, and eventually death.

100

What are some things we can do to help stop the effects of global warming?

Lesson our CO2 admissions. Use solar panels, drive electric cars, car pool, plant more trees.

200

How can we try and reverse the effects of global warming?

Car pool. Less people. Burning of less fossil fuels. Electric cars. Solar panels.

200

Explain why carbon dioxide in the Earth's atmosphere is increasing.

From burning fossil fuels, cars, oil and coal.

200

What do scientists believe is the initial cause of Global Warming?

The Industrial Revolution

200

What will happen if the Earth heats up significantly?

It would make more hurricanes and typhoons more common.

200

How many countries are currently involved in helping stop global warming?

160

300

What is the greenhouse effect?

The building up of gasses in our atmosphere.

300

What do warmer temperatures on Earth cause?

More illness, more disease. More people dying from heat related deaths.

300

Why has the surface temperatures increased?

Greenhouse gasses being built up.

300

Why is Global warming especially harmful for people with allergies?

Pollen would start blooming earlier.

300

What would be most severely impacted by global warming?

Earth's Crops, and therefore human life.

400

What are the 3 main greenhouse gasses?

Carbon dioxide, nitrogen, and methane

400

How would it affect certain animals?

They wouldn't migrate as far south as usual. Plants dying would then effect the animals that eat those plants.

400

Explain one theory for why Earth's climate is getting warmer.

The Earth's population is growing, and because of this, more fossil fuels are needed. Deforestation is occurring.

400

How can global warming effect animals?

They may not migrate south as they once did.

400

What could alter the range of plant species and plant communities?

Earlier springs, and then earlier pollen season.

500

How does global warming effect the ice caps?

They have begun to melt.

500

What else might global warming change?

Flooding. More hurricanes, more typhoons. Ice caps melting.
500

What are very young and very old city dwellers are at a greatest risk for?

Heat related deaths.

500

Name some of the possible consequences of a warmer Earth.

Animals not migrating as south as they once did. A larger pollinating season. ice caps melting. Flooding. Eventually death of all life.

500

How is the attempt to slow global warming being made difficult?

People don't understand the severity and thus continue to create carbon dioxide emissions.
