Steps for nasal spray administration

1. Counter Sanitized

2. Hands Washed/apply gloves/PWS open cupboard

3. PWS grab their medication/MAR checks

4. Have PWS blow nose prior, if staff touches dirty kleenex staff have to rewash hands and put on new gloves

5. Count to three then instill medication

6. Remind PWS not to blow nose for a few minutes, dab any excess drainage below nose with kleenex

7. Sign off on MAR/PWS lock cupboards

What are the steps for administering JM's Inhaler? Very first step to finish

1. Sanitize Counter/Wash Hands

2. JM unlock cabinet

3. JM grabs inhaler, staff does 1st Mar Check

4. Shake Inhaler

5. Ask JM what his inhaler is for- 2nd MAR Check

6. Before administering check MAR 3rd time-HOH hold inhaler with JM, having him take a deep breath before instillation

7. Staff/JM push down on inhaler for release, count to 10 holding breath

8. Offer drink of water 

9. Have JM cleanse mouth piece with alcohol wipe

10. Have JM place inhaler back away and sign of on MAR, Lock Up

After 5 minutes of "seizure" activity staff are to administer PRN Diazepam

Have him lie down/reclined on recliner (Try not to offer him to much attention sometimes makes worse)

If continues administer another dose of Diazepam 30 minutes later 


If NS is still having episodes after both PRN doses are administered you are to just keep a eye on NS and guarantee he is still responding and doing semi-purposeful movements during/after event.

 ONLY call 911 or transport to ER if he becomes unresponsive or injures himself.
