How should students enter Mrs. Kirk’s classroom? 

Girls line up on the outside by the rail; boys line up on the inside against the wall.


All students face the front. 


Girls quietly and politely enter first and sit in assigned seats, followed by the boys.


Remove all hats and headwear before entering the room.

ZERO = SILENCE (no talking)

What should students do once they quietly enter Mrs. Kirk's classroom?

Turn in homework. 

Sharpen their pencils, if necessary. 

Sit in their assigned seats.  

Start on the warm up.

5 minutes.

What is the standard hand signal in Mrs. Kirk’s classroom? 




Raise your hand and wait to be called. 

Please don’t just shout out or talk over anyone (teacher or student).

One person out at a time. 

Raise your hand and ask to go.

I only send out students 10 minutes after the bell rings.

Look for the tray with your period written on it and turn it in there.

Highlight your name before turning it in!!

How do students leave the room?

Once the bell rings, Mrs. Kirk dismisses students. 

Mrs. Kirk may dismiss students by table or whole group. 

Listen for instructions, but remember Mrs. Kirk dismisses you, not the bell.

What do I do with a paper that is handed to me?

As soon as you get a paper, print your first and last name, and then highlight your name. 

Also, write today's date.

What if my classwork or homework is unfinished?

If your work is not finished, turn it in along with a letter explaining the reason why you were unable to finish your work. I may be able to work with you on an extension.

How should I act if visitors enter the classroom? 

Please smile at visitors. 

Allow the class host to greet the visitors.
Get ready to answer any questions they may have about what you are working on.

Do I have to ask to get up for tissue? 

You do not have to ask for tissue. Just get up and get it as needed. Throw away used tissue in the trash can immediately and get back to work.

What should I do if I finish my work early? 

When you finish, you may work on other unfinished assignments, read a book, write a story, illustrate a book, tutor a student, or write a song/poem about what the class is studying.

How should I help my classmates? 

Students should help each other. If you see someone who is struggling with directions or an assignment, help him or her if you are able. If you are unable, then tell them to ask me. 

Never put down another student who asks for help.
