What is corrosion?

This type of burner is highly beneficial because you can choose to burn the fuel that is least expensive for the day and also have flexibility in your operation if one type of fuel supply requires maintenance.

This is a term for fuel that was once living and is considered a renewable resource. Examples include:

This is one way coal is categorized. The coal's hardness determines this category.
What is the rank of coal?
This is when there is a rapid fluctuation of water level in the boiler or steam drum. This condition occurs when steam bubbles are trapped below a film of impurities in the boiler water.
What is foaming?
The purpose of this equipment is to remove particles in order to protect the fuel oil pump as well as to remove impurities after the pump - to make sure the fuel gets to the burner with out clogging it up.

What are the benefits of natural gas?
When a garbage mound is capped off, you can drill holes down into the "hill". Once you insert the perforated piping, the methane gas is captured so that you can burn it in a boiler.
What is landfill gas?
In this equipment, coal is ground into a fine powder so that the air and fuel can mix better. The coal powder is burned in suspension.
What is a pulverizer?
This is a measure of the concentration of impurities that are in solution with the boiler water. The condition is measured using a conductivity meter. As this condition worsens, the conductivity of the boiler water increases.
What are total dissolved solids?
This equipment increases the temperature of the fuel oil and lowers its viscosity for easy pumpability.
What is a fuel oil heater?
- Mostly methane, some ethylene, some hydrogen, moisture and impurities
What is the chemical makeup of natural gas?
This is when there is a biological breakdown of matter in the absence of oxygen. Organic waste such as cow manure, plant materials, and sewage can all be broken down to create methane for use in a boiler or engine.
What is digester gas?
In this type of coal stoker, coal is fed into the boiler on a traveling grate. A gate controls the thickness of the coal bed on the grate. The amount of coal burned depends upon the thickness of the fuel bed, the rate of grate travel and the amount of air supplied.
What is a chain grate stoker?
This is a boiler chemical used as an internal treatment. It is commonly referred to as an "oxygen scavenger" because it removes trace amounts of oxygen in the boiler water.
What is sodium sulfite?
This equipment is used to clean the soot off the economizer or air heater tubes.

What are the risks of using natural gas?
This equipment is set up on a track so that it can move in and out of the extremely hot furnace to clean the soot off the boiler tubes. This device cleans the superheater and water wall tubes.
What is a retractable soot blower?
In this type of boiler, coal is burned in a limestone/sand mixture in order to absorb the sulfur dioxide. Low firing temperatures minimize thermal NOx, making this type of boiler a better choice environmentally.
