What is the skill Guiding Kids to Own and Solve Their Problems?
1. Lead with a strong dose of Empathy
2. Hand the problem back in a caring way. "What are you going to do about it?"
3. Ask permission to give ideas: Would you like to hear some ideas of what other kids have tried?
4. After each idea ask, "How will that work for you?"
5. Allow the student to either solve the problem or not solve the problem. "Good luck, let me know how it works out."
