What do you do if you suspect a child has been hurt by an adult?

Ask the child questions and gather information.  If you still feel the child was hurt then call DHS maltreatment 651-431-6600 The number is near all phones

We support the child's need to learn how to self assess risk.  We support an environment that allows risks.  

Hazards are always removed from the environments.

What would you do if a child took a drink from a cleaning product?

Access the situation.  Is the child safe or do you have to offer first aid to the child? 

Call Poision Control.    Call the parents.  

Management should alert licensing and a citation would be given and possible meeting with licensing with the employees that were involved.

Find things for them to climb.  Ask yourself if what they are trying to climb is really a problem.

Allow large amounts of free time for children's choice.  This includes outdoor time.

Watch and listen.  If you are going to interrupt children play then it better be for a very good reason....

When prepping food, changing a diaper, feeding a breast milk baby a bottle, assisting a child who is bleeding, when cleaning up vomit or bodily fluids

Each classroom emergency kit should contain a shield or mask.

If you find a classroom emergency bag is missing an item please let management know what is missing.

How do we support child's possession of a toy or item?

We help them tell the other children that they may have it when the child is done with it.  Do not place time limits on things.

What do you do if a child is missing?  

Conduct a search of the building and grounds for 5-15 minutes.  Check sandbox to make sure they were not picked up by a parent.  Call 911 if determined the child is lost.  Call Parents immediately following 911.
