The water felt so good on such a hot day. I heard the other children laughing and yelling across the way. The concrete was wet from a group of teenagers splashing each other in the corner. The lifeguard watched closely to keep children from running.

As I walked in the door, I was amazed at the beautiful colors and smells. I knew it would be hard to decide what I would buy with my $3.00. The chocolate truffles looked delicious, but they were expensive. The jelly beans were not only cheaper, but so colorful! With so much to choose from, I knew I would be here a long time.

Kallie was excited about tonight. She put on her big, red shoes and bright, striped outfit. She put a big, red circle on each cheek. Just before Kallie ran out the door to meet her friends, she secured her large, red nose and placed a bright blue, hat on top of her head with a flower. I patiently waited for the server to bring me my meal even though I was starving. I hadn't eaten since Mom's meatball and spaghetti dinner last night, and since I had basketball practice, I had dinner early. Dad says I should've woken up earlier and had something small before going to church and then meeting Grandma like every Sunday, but I was just too cozy to make it all the way downstairs to the kitchen. I hope Grandma arrives soon though. The tantalizing smells are killing me. In a moment, I'm just going to drink the maple syrup; maybe that will help fill me up.

No one knows how hard
It is to be me.
Everyone says,
"I've been there."
or
"I understand."
But they really don't know.
Not really.
Because I am me,
And I am
Unique!

Albie and Ralphie went exploring last Saturday. Albie carried a net and a wire cage to put specimens in. Ralphie ran ahead and stuck his nose into a bush searching. Albie followed behind bending to grab a small, red and black, winged critter. Albie looked up, held out his hand, and decided to put on his wide brimmed hat and jacket. He tucked the specimen bag under his jacket so it wouldn't get wet.
When the sun came back out and the clouds had moved away, Albie and Ralphie sat down for lunch. Albie had a ham sandwich, and Ralphie had a big, juicy steak bone. After lunch was finished, they trotted on home and observed their new pet. Later that day, the two played catch while the sun set. Summer was over, and Albie had to get up tomorrow.
