Someone who performs onstage
Actor
The stage area in front of the main curtain , around the pit opening.
Apron
Items carried on stage by an actor; small items on the set that are used by actors
Props or Properties
Colored tape that is used to mark scenery positions on stage
Spike Tape
The person who oversees the entire process of staging a production
Director
Room close to the stage for the actors to meet and relax before or after going on stage.
Green Room
An actor who no longer needs to refer to their script during a rehearsal.
Off Book
Text of a musical or an opera
Libretto
The person who researches the costumes, decides which styles and fabrics to use, and presents final actor sketches to the director
Costume Designer
Areas that are part of a stage deck but offstage, out of sight of the audience.
The Wings
The planning and working out of the movements of the actors on stage.
Blocking
When the scenery, props, costumes and other elements of the production are moved into the theater venue where the performance is to take place. The set is typically constructed onstage during this time.
Load-In
The person responsible for the musical aspect of a performance.
Music Director (Sam)
Anything in the audience; commonly used to describe staff such as ushers ; also lighting positions
Front of House (FOH)
The striking of one set and the setting up if scenery for another
Shift
Actor's Equity Association ( Equity)
The all purpose technical assistant and is typically the deck captain backstage of a show.
Assistant Stage Manager (ASM)
Curtains placed on either side of the stage just upstage of the curtain line. They serve to mask the wings from the view of the audience and vary the width of the playing area on stage.
Legs or Masking
The final few technical rehearsals just prior to opening night in which the show is run with the full techincal elements . Full costumes and make up are worn
Dress Rehearsals
The warning to people on stage that the lights are about to be switched off. This is normally said during lighting Q2Qs and technical rehearsals.
