An examination that is required when a person is put on a mental  hold by either a physician or law enforcement.  Must be done within 24 hours of placing on a hold. 

DE or designated examine.  This is the responsibility of the county to achieve the first DE. Once the prosecuting attorney's office receives the proper paper work, they are supposed to contact the social worker for a DE or designated examine.
