What are the similarities between the Incas and Aztecs?
The Incas and Aztecs were two civilizations in early human history and they both share many similarities. They are both known for being polytheistic, building temples dedicated to worshipping their gods., and performing human sacrifices. The Inca and Aztec Empires were polytheistic meaning they believe in and worship multiple gods. Both of these civilizations focused mostly on the worship of their sun god. With the many gods that they worshipped they both built temples dedicated to the worship of these gods. These temples were made using materials such as clay, wood, and stone. Finally, the Incas and Aztecs both practiced human sacrifice in the temples they created to appease their gods. They would often target prisoners of war for these sacrifices and in extreme cases they would use their own people. Early Mesoamerican civilizations, such as the Incas and Aztecs, display many similar characteristics but are also very distinct in contrast. Studying these civilizations can display extremely valuable information to historians studying the time period.
The Mongol Empire was a powerhouse of an empire during its time period. It was so successful because of the tactics used by their military. Their military was so successful because of their use of archery, incredible discipline, and a breakup of the hierarchy for their military. In battle, the Mongols would use archery on horseback and surround their enemies effectively overwhelming them. This strategy would easily overpower other armies as they used mostly foot soldiers. Their soldiers were trained from very young ages often starting around the age of three. Due to training people from exceptionally young ages and putting them through hard discipline all of the Mongol soldiers were very skilled and hard to beat in combat. The military was also broken up into small groups. Each unit was broken up in decimals of 10 with a leader for each group of ten. The Mongol Empire was a very powerful empire and the military tactics used by Genghis Khan were revolutionary for the time.
The Mughal Empire was an Islamic empire and of its rulers Akbar is the favorite of most people. Akbar was religiously tolerant and he displayed this by marrying a Buddhist woman, incorporating people of Christian and Buddhist faith into his courts, and abolished a tax collection system that favored Muslims. Akbar's marriage of a Buddhist woman displayed to all the people he ruled over that he truly was tolerant and accepting of all religions. This made people less likely to rebel against him because they felt safe with him. When he incorporated people of many faiths into his courts he allowed all people of said other faiths in his empire to have representation giving equality to all religions and people. And finally, by abolishing the previous tax system he created true equality in the Mughal Empire. Akbar was a fantastic ruler and modern day rulers should look to his tolerance for their own principles.
The Colombian Exchange had many bad aspects but there were also good aspects. It promoted the development of vaccinations, increased the spread of agricultural goods, and spread culture. The Colombian Exchange promoted a wide spread of disease and with these diseases people became desperate to find a cure. This lead to the development of a smallpox vaccine using cowpox as well as creating a larger herd immunity for all of the people who had now experienced these diseases. The Colombian Exchange was also known for the spread of crops and agricultural goods leading to crops native to a country in Europe being found in the Americas. Culture was also spread because as people from different parts of the world interact, they take some part of the culture with them. This includes clothing, traditions, and food. Overall, the Colombian Exchange promoted a lot of developmental growth for all countries involved and without it the modern world would not function the way it does today.
Discuss the similarities in the Haitian and French Revolutions.
In the French and Haitian revolutions there are many similarities, they both looked to enlightenment thinkers for inspiration, they both fought off a government exploiting the people, and they were started as a result of class struggles. Enlightenment thinkers play a very important role in revolutions because without their ideas many of the people rebelling would not have a structure to base their constitutions off of. Both countries looked to enlightenment thinkers like John Locke to establish how their government should work. In both revolutions they were also exploited for resources. In Haiti it was the land and the people who were exploited to boost the economy and in France it was the lower class being forced to pay taxes to support the entire country. Finally, both countries dealt with classist ideas. The French lower class was barely able to afford bread while they paid all the taxes and Haitian blacks were unable to get out of the lower class or live fulfilling lives as a result of the economy. In both situations the people were unable to avoid their financial system. The lesson to be learned from these experiences is that the exploitation of people will never lead to a successful country.
