What was one effect the cotton gin had on slavery? 

Prior to the cotton gin, the labor system of slavery was being replaced by cheap, but legal labor. The cotton gin could efficiently remove seeds from cotton and so farmers needed a labor system that could easily and quickly harvest cotton. This led the increase of slaves in the US.
