Cough, reluctance to exercise, fatigue after moderate activity, decreased appetite, weight loss. Pets may develop heart failure and the appearance of a swollen belly due to excess fluid in the abdomen.

After a patient has been treated for heartworm disease, how many months do you wait to retest for heartworms? What is the protocol if they test positive again?

9 months after treatment (I try to line it up with their annuals if possible)

If positive again- treat with a course of doxy and 2 adulticide/immiticide/diroban injections 24 hours apart
