What causes PTSD?

When you’re in a stressful or dangerous situation, your body respond by producing hormones & chemicals as part of the “fight or flight” response (your body is preparing to either fight off the danger or run from it.) Usually, when the danger is over, the body goes back to normal. But when someone has PTSD, their stress response system does not switch off as it should.
